Buy One, Feed One

Our Commitment to 1% For the Planet

As a member of 1% For the Planet, Hass donates 1% of all revenues to nonprofits that address the interrelated issues of climate change, healthy food systems, land management, water resources, pollution, and wildlife diversity. As part of our commitment, we’ve teamed up with the nonprofits City Harvest, in New York, and Food Forward, in Los Angeles, to fight food waste and food insecurity. Both organizations rescue nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away and puts it in the hands of individuals and families facing hunger. As part of our respective partnerships, we’ve pledged to donate a meal to someone in need for every purchase made on our website.

Feeding Those In Need

No one deserves to go hungry.

According to Feeding America, 42 million adults and 13 million children will experience food insecurity in 2021 — with Black communities suffering even more. This is unacceptable. That’s why Hass is helping ensure individuals, children, and communities don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Our partnership with City Harvest and Food Forward make that possible.

Fighting Food Waste

About 30 to 40 percent of the U.S. food supply is wasted per year, says Feeding America. That’s equivalent to 80 million pounds of food or 1,000 Empire State Buildings. This isn’t just an issue for our worsening hunger crisis — it’s harmful for the environment, too. Most food waste ends up in landfills where it emits greenhouse gases and further contributes to climate change. In fact, it’s estimated that the production of food waste in the U.S. is responsible for 37 million cars worth of greenhouse gas emissions. By supporting City Harvest and Food Forward, we’re lessening the amount of food that ends up in landfills, while feeding those in need and fighting climate change.
