Proud to Be a Certified B Corporation
We balance purpose and profit by considering our workers, suppliers, communities, and the environment in every decision we make.
Certified B Corporations are the benchmark for how sustainable, inclusive, responsible businesses operate. We’re proud to be part of this group of business leaders. Certified B Corps undergo a rigorous certification process to verify they meet strict standards for social and environmental performance.
Certified B Corporations are the gold standard for responsible business, demanding accountability toward a sustainable and inclusive economy. The rigorous certification process provides the highest standard of verified positive impact of a company. Once approved, B Corps change their governing documents to consider the result of their decisions on workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. Hass is a subsidiary of Avocado Green Brands, which became a Certified B Corp in May 2020, with a high score of 126.2 — well beyond the 80-point minimum threshold (a median score for an ordinary business is 51.9).
Our B Corp Impact
B Corps wants to redefine what success in business means for society, shifting from a model centered around shareholders — those who profit from a company — to stakeholders — those who are impacted by a company. B Corp measures businesses by whether they are good actors and deliver value to all. This means reckoning with the broader implications of business decisions and understanding their impacts beyond the bottom line. More than 3,000 companies worldwide are now Certified B Corporations.
Hass is one of only 27 fashion and apparel companies in the world to be Climate Neutral Certified — and the reason we received exemplary marks in the Environment category. We work with the independent nonprofit to set an annual Reduction Action Plan for our emissions. From powering our factory with wind and solar to using biodegradable, renewable, and recycled materials, we minimize our impact on the environment as much as possible. Then we measure and offset all of our scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions — our entire footprint from resource extraction to shipping — effectively making Hass net zero.
Our participation in 1% for the Planet and our Buy One, Feed One program helped us score well in the Community category. We want to use our platform as a vehicle for good on both a local and global scale. As part of this commitment, we feed one person in need with every purchase through our partnerships with City Harvest, in New York, and Food Forward, in Los Angeles.
Our employees are our family and we treat them that way. That’s why we scored high in the Workers category. We provide competitive wages and benefits for our factory workers, our customer service reps, and everyone in between. We also offer paid volunteer time and subsidized health memberships to promote wellness.
