Impact Score

We track clearly defined, measurable progress towards our sustainability goals on a 1-5 scale.

Our material supply chain has full traceability back to the farm level. Hass holds B Corp and GOTS certifications that address transparency and we've met publicly disclosed, previously set impact goals. We also have formal donation commitments that account for more than 2% of revenue.

Hass has conducted verified, audited calculations of emissions. We are Climate Neutral Certified for net-zero emissions with qualified credits, and use organic cotton that produces fewer emissions than common industry choices. Hass also actively participates in high-engagement advocacy campaigns for clean air.

Water & chemicals

A 100% natural fiber does not release microfibers into waterways. Hass actively advocates for clean water through high-engagement activities and our materials hold certifications that address water consumption and treatment. We've also performed a life cycle analysis on this material to understand its impacts.

Certified organic cotton can biodegrade in as few as five months. Hass sources a more responsible material versus conventional, cheaper options. The material holds GOTS and MADE SAFE certifications and we actively advocate for safe material legislation.

Workers' rights

The Hass supply chain is certified according to a standard that addresses workers' rights. We have diverse leadership representation (36% female, 60% ethnic variance), and the finished product assembly (cut and sew) is local to the headquarters. Our B Corp score ranks 6.4 out of 8.83 points.

Hass is actively pursuing its Zero Waste Certification. We have invested in capital purchases to reduce single-use plastic consumption and implemented a donation program that results in 90%+ donation rates of returned products. Select materials are certified according to recycled standards.

Why Organic Cotton Matters

Conventional cotton is one of the dirtiest crops on the planet, heavily reliant on pesticides and excessive water use. It has an enormous carbon footprint. The toxic chemicals used to grow it are linked to higher rates of cancer, asthma, and birth defects where the crop is grown. Farmers grow GOTS organic certified cotton without pesticides. It has about half the carbon footprint of conventional cotton. It uses around 70 percent less water. GOTS also validates fair and ethical treatment for the farmers, which results in safer, more sustainable communities.

MADE SAFE® Certified

Our Organic Cotton Crop T-Shirt is MADE SAFE® Certified — a rigorous scientific screening process that only allows the use of ingredients that are not known or suspected to harm human health, animals, aquatic life, or ecosystems. This distinction matters. By verifying our apparel through this strict third-party validation, we’re able to provide our customers and our workers the added assurance that the clothing we make is free of harsh chemicals and toxic materials — from sourcing to manufacturing. This is better for the planet, too.

MADE SAFE® Certified

Proudly Sewn in L.A.

More than 95 percent of clothing is imported from overseas. Often, the clothes are made in factories with devastating environmental impacts and terrible human rights violations, including forced child labor. Intensive carbon emissions from transporting garments overseas increase the greenhouse gasses that lead to the climate crisis. That’s why we cut, dye, and sew this collection right here in Los Angeles with GOTS certified organic cotton (CU863637) sourced from India. GOTS has also thoroughly vetted our factory partners to ensure we’re meeting the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility.

Why “Made In LA” Matters

Low-Impact Dyes Are Better For You

Because of their relatively low cost and ability to produce vibrant colors, AZO dyes, which make up 60 to 70 percent of dyes, are frequently used in the textile industry. The problem is — they’re highly toxic. AZO dyes release aromatic amines, a known carcinogen that can be harmful to human health. Other dyes commonly used in the fashion industry have also been found to contain heavy metals, which have been linked to cancer. At Hass, we dye our collections in Los Angeles using low-impact dyes. This protects you, our workers, and the environment.

Natural Dyes Are Better For You

Slow Fashion

Hass is not fast fashion. We want you to buy less and wear it more. We build our clothing with its lifecycle at the forefront. That’s why we design each piece with timeless elegance, durable natural materials, and careful attention to each stitch. Doing it this way costs a little more up front, but given their versatility, functionality, and style, our clothes are more practical and economical than something discarded after a season or two.

Less Is more

1% For The Planet

Created by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, 1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects sustainably-minded businesses like Hass to environmental nonprofits. As members, we donate 1 percent of our annual revenues to verified organizations that address the interrelated issues of climate change, healthy food systems, land management, water resources, pollution, and wildlife diversity.

Certified B Corporation

Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balance purpose and profit — they legally commit to consider the impacts of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. It’s a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good. Reed + Gwen, as a subsidiary of Avocado Green Brands, has a B Score of 126.2 points — well beyond the 80-point minimum threshold.

Climate Neutral Certified

The emissions from burning fossil fuels are the leading cause of our unprecedented climate crisis. Hass is proud to be Climate Neutral Certified for net zero emissions. We work with the nonprofit to voluntarily measure, reduce, and offset more than 100% of our scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by supporting carbon offset initiatives through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.

GOTS Global Organic Textile Standard

Organic fabrics are better for you, better for farmers, and better for the planet. And we’re proud to use cotton and wool that’s certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (CU863637) — the gold standard for organic fabrics. GOTS verifies these fabrics are free from harmful chemicals and meet the highest standards for social and environmental responsibility.
