Luxurious and Durable Modal
Made from beech tree pulp, modal is a soft material originally developed in Japan. Lenzing-certified modal is the textile industry standard that verifies ethical and sustainable materials sourcing and manufacturing. The cellulose-based textile is more durable than rayon and has a silkier quality than cotton. It’s also a more environmentally friendly alternative — beech trees require little water to thrive and the production process consumes 10 to 20 percent less water than cotton.
Proudly Sewn In LA
More than 95 percent of clothing is imported from overseas. Often, the clothes are made in factories with devastating environmental impacts and terrible human rights violations, including forced child labor. Intensive carbon emissions from transporting garments overseas increase the greenhouse gasses that lead to the climate crisis. That’s why we cut, dye, and sew this leisurewear collection in Los Angeles with Lenzing certified modal from Austria. The Global Organic Textile Standard has thoroughly vetted our factory partners to ensure we’re meeting the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility.
Breathable & Sustainable
Why Natural Is Better For You
Because of their relatively low cost and ability to produce vibrant colors, 60 to 70 percent of all dyes in the textile industry are AZO dyes. The problem is — they’re highly toxic. AZO dyes release aromatic amines, a known carcinogen that can be harmful to human health. Other dyes commonly used in the fashion industry have also been found to contain heavy metals, which have been linked to cancer. At Hass, we dye our collections in Los Angeles using low-impact dyes. This protects you, our workers, and the environment.
Climate Neutral Certified
Carbon emissions are the leading cause of the climate crisis. Hass is one of 27 clothing companies that is Climate Neutral Certified, effectively making our business carbon neutral. We work with Climate Neutral to reduce our emissions, then we measure and voluntarily offset more than 100 percent of our footprint, from resource extraction to shipping, by supporting carbon offset projects through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Our offset projects help mitigate climate change and support innovation in addressing greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
Created by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, 1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects sustainably-minded businesses like Hass to environmental nonprofits. As members, we donate 1 percent of our annual revenues to verified organizations that address the interrelated issues of climate change, healthy food systems, land management, water resources, pollution, and wildlife diversity.
Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balance purpose and profit — they legally commit to consider the impacts of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. Reed + Gwen, as a subsidiary of Avocado Green Brands, has a B Score of 126.2 points — well beyond the 80-point minimum threshold.
