Impact Score
We track clearly defined, measurable progress towards our sustainability goals on a 1-5 scale.
Material supply chain has full traceability. Hass holds a B Corp certification that addresses transparency and we've met established impact goals. Hass has formal donation commitments that account for more than 2% of revenue. Material supply chain uses Higg FEM and FSLM tools to measure impact.
Hass is Climate Neutral certified. Alpaca Fiber produces high emissions. The Peruvian supplier is, however, required to meet parameters of their environmental management commitments, with parameters set and audited by the government. We also actively participate in advocacy campaigns for clean air.
Alpaca fiber does not release microfibers into waterways. We actively advocate for Clean Water. The company has performed an LCA on this material to compare it to industry alternatives. Our supplier is required to report on specific metrics regarding water use and eutrophication. They pass in every category.
Alpaca biodegrades at home and under industrial applications within 1 to 5 years. Hass sources a fiber that is essential for the Peruvian way of life. We also advocate for safer material legislation through high-engagement lobbying activities.
Hass's B Corp score in the supply chain management area is high (6.4 out of 8.83 points). Our supplier employs underrepresented populations and offers a variety of benefits to their workers including scholarships, legal and consulting services, healthcare, and life insurance. The supplier is also part of Fair Trade Peru.
Hass is pursuing its Zero Waste certification. We have invested in capital purchases, like paper roll pack machines, to reduce single-use plastic consumption. Hass has a program that results in 90%+ donation rates of returned products. We use select materials that are certified according to specific recycled standards (GRS, RCS).
Renewable and Deluxe Alpaca Fiber
Possibly the most luxurious and practical renewable fiber on Earth. Alpaca wool was once reserved for Incan royalty. It’s still sought after for its unparalleled warmth, decadent texture, light weight, and temperature and moisture regulation. We ethically source our sustainable alpaca from a high-elevation regenerative farm in the Peruvian Andes that ensures traceability. And because our farmers closely monitor their environmental impact and adhere to strict responsible sourcing standards, our alpaca has a smaller carbon footprint than other luxury fibers like merino and cashmere.

Luxury Fibers, Ethically Sourced

Slow Fashion
Hass is not fast fashion. We want you to buy less and wear it more. We build our clothing with its lifecycle at the forefront. That’s why we design each piece with timeless elegance, durable natural materials, and careful attention to each stitch. Doing it this way costs a little more up front, but given their versatility, functionality, and style, our clothes are more practical and economical than something discarded after a season or two. For example, if one wore this piece 100 times, it would cost $0.45 per wear. If you wore it 30 times, it would cost $1.48 per wear.

A Force For Good
Hass is Climate Neutral Certified and a Certified B Corporation. We’re also members of 1% for the Planet and donate 1% of our annual revenue to environmental causes. And with every purchase, we donate a meal to someone in our community in need. It’s through these initiatives and our commitment to a clean supply chain that we believe Hass can be a vehicle for good, both locally and globally.

Certificates
Created by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, 1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects sustainably-minded businesses like Hass to environmental nonprofits. As members, we donate 1 percent of our annual revenues to verified organizations that address the interrelated issues of climate change, healthy food systems, land management, water resources, pollution, and wildlife diversity.
Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balance purpose and profit — they legally commit to consider the impacts of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. It’s a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good. Reed + Gwen, as a subsidiary of Avocado Green Brands, has a B Score of 126.2 points — well beyond the 80-point minimum threshold.
The emissions from burning fossil fuels are the leading cause of our unprecedented climate crisis. Hass is proud to be Climate Neutral Certified for net zero emissions. We work with the nonprofit to voluntarily measure, reduce, and offset more than 100% of our scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by supporting carbon offset initiatives through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
